How do we understand things?
The process of understanding and creativity is to go from specific to general to specific - concrete to abstract to concrete. Think of Darwin theorizing evolution - he observed the specifics e.g. sparrows, then he abstracted the pattern of evolution, then he applied it to other species. Newton observed an apple fall then generalized gravity then applied this to explian other phenomena.
