This study compared Tony Robbins style of teaching compared to a traditional lecture.
Tony Robbins style includes use of rhetorical tools like humor, story, and stagecraft as well as frequent bouts of physical activity and states of high emotional energy. 26 people were randomly divided into an immersive seminar or traditional lecture and learned for 2 days. Physical activity, hormones, and assessments of wellbeing were collected over the 2 days and performance on an examination was used to assess learning.
Physical activity as well as cortisol levels (associated with alertness) and reported measures of mood, focus, energy, and wellbeing were significantly greater in Tony Robbins seminar. Further, Robbins participants demonstrated significantly retention of material 30 days post. Physical activity and increased arousal (higher energy emotional states) enhance learning and retention.
