The Buddha is said to have taught that the mind has three reactions to everything: want, reject, or, essentially, zone out or ignore. This seems to be a universal. The motive forces of life are desire for “good” and fear of “bad”. In nature, the brain operates on fight, flight, or don’t react. This seems hardwired as an algorithm into all living animals: pursue/attack, avoid/flee, or do nothing.
